ROCHESTER, NY – Some eclipse glasses marketed for the upcoming total solar eclipse have been recalled over safety concerns, according to recent reports. A statement from an NBC affiliate, WHEC, in Rochester, New York, highlighted that Amazon has reached out to customers who may have bought specific eclipse viewing glasses from their platform, advising against their use.
The alert specified that the glasses, sold under the name “Biniki Solar Eclipse Glasses AAS Approved 2024 – CE & ISO Certified Safe Shades for Direct Sun Viewing (6 Packs),” were mistakenly labeled as AAS Approved, despite not being recognized by the American Astronomical Society as a safe supplier for eclipse viewing products.
In light of this, Amazon has cautioned buyers against using these glasses for viewing the eclipse scheduled for Monday, prioritizing consumer safety by issuing this notice proactively.
