Many sanctuary cities have migrant policies for dealing with the influx of people coming across the border. However, Denver is now seeing an influx that is spilling into near by cities and towns. For example, Aurora, Colorado has seen a boom in people involved in the Venezuelan gang called Tren de Aragua.

Abe Laydon, a Douglas county commissioner has said that when a Denver bill became law in 2017, solidifying the city’s resistance to work with federal immigration enforcement, followed by numerous other initiatives to help migrants and asylum seekers, the impending ripple effect on neighboring communities was obvious.
According to the Colorado Sun, the city of Denver has about 710,000 residents and leads the nation in migrant arrivals per capita having more that 40,000 arriving from the southern border since 2022.
The national vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police, Joe Gamaldi has said that “This is not a Denver problem or an Aurora problem. This is a nationwide problem.”
