Paint from the leaking substance was reported to have splattered on a passing vehicle.
The Flint Police Department was requested to shut down the ramp from Hammerberg to EB69 and, subsequently, the need arose to close the middle two lanes of the highway.
Efforts to manage the traffic included a request to divert traffic onto Hammerberg and a request for Flint Fire to assist with traffic control.
According to Genesee County 911, hazardous material technicians were dispatched, although there were challenges in allocating additional engines for traffic control.
The substance was noted to be highly flammable, with both vapor and liquid states posing a threat. Authorities issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) for any cars entering Southbound, emphasizing that the ramp was already shut down.
