BIUNGHAM COUNTY, ID – An 85-year-old woman, Christine Jenneiahn, defended herself and her home by fatally shooting a masked assailant during a distressing invasion. The intruder, identified as 39-year-old Derek Condon, had broken into Jenneiahn’s home, threatening her life and demanding valuables while her disabled son was asleep. Bingham County Prosecutor Ryan Jolley commended Jenneiahn’s courage, stating that her resolve and quick thinking under such dire circumstances were exemplary acts of self-defense and justifiable homicide. The ordeal began when Jenneiahn was awakened at 2 a.m. by Condon, who was pointing a gun at her while disguised in a military jacket and ski mask. Despite being physically attacked and handcuffed, Jenneiahn did not reveal her son’s presence in the house and later, while still restrained, managed to retrieve her .357 Magnum revolver.

The confrontation led to an exchange of gunfire, with Jenneiahn sustaining multiple injuries. However, she successfully neutralized the threat posed by Condon, who eventually succumbed to his injuries in her kitchen. Jenneiahn, despite her injuries and being handcuffed to a chair, survived for about 10 hours before police arrived and provided immediate medical assistance. She was subsequently treated at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and has been released.
