House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner is calling on President Biden to declassify information regarding a significant national security threat, which has been shared with all members of Congress.
The information pertains to a destabilizing foreign military capability, deemed urgent for congressional policymakers. Turner’s request aims to facilitate open discussion among Congress, the administration, and allies on how to address this threat.
The White House National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, expressed surprise at Turner’s public statement before a scheduled briefing with the Gang of Eight, emphasizing the administration’s efforts in strategic declassification for national interest and highlighting the importance of protecting sources and methods.
Sullivan is set to discuss the matter in a classified setting with House Intelligence leadership.
