Social Security says that they do everything in their power to make sure that there are no overpayments but they do happen. There are several things that Social Security uses to determine benefits. These include the following:
Your income, Your ability to work, your living situation, your marital status. You should notify SSA if any of these situations change. The sooner the better so that you do not have an overpayment situation. You can always call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 between 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m Monday through Friday.
