Montgomery, Alabama – A shooting during homecoming at Tuskegee University has left one person dead and 16 others hurt. The suspect is in custody. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Jaquez Myrick, 25 was arrested following the incident. Mr. Myrick was found with a handgun with a machine gun conversion device. “The agency said in a statement that Myrick faces a federal charge of possession of a machine gun. It did not accuse him of using the gun in the shooting or provide additional details.”
According to an article on Newsnationnow.com, twelve people were hurt by gunfire and four others sustained injuries not related to the gunshots, the state agency said. Those injured were taken to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery for treatment.

Monday classes have been canceled at Tuskegee University following the incident and counselors are available to students.
