FLINT, Mich – The Mott Community College Board of Trustees voted Monday evening 6 to 0 against the proposed Genesee County Mega Site.
Several trustees spoke at the meeting, saying they did not want to support the project until they fully understood it and its possible impact on the community.
Michigan lawmakers approved $250 million in taxpayer funds for a 1,000-acre advanced manufacturing district in Mundy Township last week.

The Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance will use the funds to begin property acquisition and basic site development. The mega site, located between Maple, Hill, Linden, and Elms roads, is intended to host advanced manufacturing facilities such as electric vehicle battery assembly, microchip manufacturing, or aerospace plants.
Tyler Rossmaessler from the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance spoke at the Trustee meeting, urging trustees to show their support for the project.
Despite strong opposition from some residents concerned about the project’s impact on the community, the alliance, backed by 30 local organizations, believes the site will attract billions in investment and create thousands of jobs. The site’s proximity to major highways, an airport, and universities is seen as a significant advantage in attracting new industry.
