Controversial Northville, Michigan school health clinic is “on hold”

NORTHVILLE, Mich – Despite initial plans to establish School-Based Health Centers through a partnership with Michigan Medicine, the collaboration has been halted by Michigan Medicine’s decision.

The school board had approved the initiative. In a statement provided by the Northville Public Schools, “The unexpected setback has led Northville Public Schools to express surprise and disappointment. Despite this, the district remains committed to student well-being and pledges to continue exploring opportunities for support, emphasizing ongoing efforts to promote academic success and social-emotional health for all students.”

Not everyone was on board with the plan for the clinic. A group of parents spoke out with concerns that students could get health care without parental consent. Click this link to watch an interview with one of those parents.

It’s important to note the Northville Public School district limited comments on their X (Twitter account) to only people they follow, basically not allowing the general public to comment.

The school district disabled comments on its Facebook page. Apparently, the district does not welcome feedback from parents.

Michigan Medicine has not released a statement at this time.

I will continue to follow this story and similar issues happening across the state.
