A cache of illegal weapons seized by U.S. Border Patrol at the Yuma Sector

Blythe, CA – A plethora of illegal weapons were seized on Wednesda by the U.S. Border Patrol at the Yuma Sector.  A K-9 alerted at a California gas station that resulted in the seizure of a cache of tactical weapons late Wednesday.

Once the K-9 alerted on a Honda CRV, Border Patrol agents were granted permission to search the vehicle were they discovered a cache of weapons including  25 AK-47 style rifles, 25 30-round magazines and two pistols.  Two people were arrested including one juvenile and one adult who were then turned over to local authorities pending the outcome of the investigation.  It is believed the weapons were in fact headed for Mexico.

“Transnational Criminal Organizations traffic weapons to fuel their illicit activity on both sides of the border.  This weapons seizure clearly demonstrates the importance of our Border Security mission and commitment of keeping our communities safe,” said Yuma Sector Chief Patrol Agent Sean McGoffin. “Our Border Patrol agents remain steadfast and vigilant, and I am extremely proud of the work they do each day.” The seizure is believed to be the largest in recent Yuma Sector history.”

It was the result of the Border Patrol’s Operation Apollo that enabled agents to seize this cache of weapons.
