Barge hits bridge in Galveston, Texas causing damage and causing an oil spill

GALVESTON, Texas – A barge hit a bridge at around 9:30 this morning causing damage to the bridge and causing an oil spill.  Ronnie Varela, with the Galveston’s Office of Emergency Management said that the bridge leads to Pelican Island which is just north of Galveston.

There was no information available about any injuries.  “Aerial video showed portions of a rail line that runs parallel to the bridge on top of the barge. The rail line is no longer in service.”

Workers are working to clean up an oil spill caused by the collision.  No injuries were reported.
