The problem arises when voters choose “yes” for one judge and “no” for another, affecting the paper record but not the digital tally.
The county has instructed poll workers to inform voters about the issue.
While the Pennsylvania State Department is working with the county to determine the problem’s extent and solution, officials express confidence in resolving the matter.
Some voters have resorted to using provisional ballots. The problem seems limited to Northampton County and is not reported to affect neighboring counties. The state department is collecting information on Election Day issues for a post-election summary. Voters experiencing problems are encouraged to contact their county elections office or the state department voter hotline.
