TRAVERSE CITY, Mich – In a notable incident in Grand Traverse County, Michigan, a traffic stop by local sheriff’s deputies led to immigration enforcement action against 19 individuals. The event unfolded this past Friday morning when a bus was observed displaying erratic driving patterns, such as swerving and lane deviations, prompting deputies to initiate a stop on North Garfield Avenue, near the U.S. Postal Service Distribution Center.

According to independent journalist Izzy Lyman on Twitter, the situation escalated when the deputies encountered issues with the driver’s documentation, which appeared to be inconsistent or unclear. This prompted the involvement of the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a federal agency tasked with border enforcement and immigration matters.
According to a Detroit-based spokesperson for the CBP, the 19 passengers aboard the bus were identified as “undocumented non-citizens.” They were subsequently transported to the Sault Ste. Marie Border Patrol Station for further processing.
At the station, each individual was served with a Notice To Appear, marking the commencement of formal immigration removal proceedings.
