Upon arrival, a deputy found the child unresponsive and immediately began providing first aid. During these critical moments, signs of potential neglect or abuse were evident, prompting the initiation of a criminal investigation alongside the medical response efforts.

Despite the rapid response and medical attention, the young victim was transported to a Saginaw Hospital and later airlifted to a specialized trauma center for advanced care. Tragically, on February 11, the child succumbed to their injuries and passed away.

The investigation, led by the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from local law enforcement and first responders, quickly escalated as interviews with parents and family members were conducted. In the early hours of Saturday, a parent was arrested facing severe charges including first-degree child abuse and providing false information to the police. The charges were further escalated to include homicide following the child’s death.

The community and the involved agencies are left reeling from the incident, which highlights the heartbreaking realities of child abuse and the toll it takes on families and first responders. The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Caro Police Department, MSP, MMR, and the Caro Fire Department, are continuing their investigation, acknowledging that initial reports may evolve as more information becomes available.

The loss of a child is an unimaginable tragedy, and the sheriff’s office extends its deepest sympathies to the family members affected by this devastating event. As the investigation continues, the community is reminded of the profound impact of such incidents on all involved, from the officers on the scene to the grieving family members.
