UPDATED…State of Emergency declared in Kentucky after coal plant collapses

UPDATE: Two workers who were trapped after and 11-story building collapsed at a coal preparation plant have died.  Governor Andy Beshear made the announcement on Friday after the second worker was found.  “The two men — identified as Billy Ray Daniels and Alvin Nees — were trapped under rubble at the Martin Mine Prep Plant in Martin County after an 11-story abandoned building crashed down around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The men were on the scene completing work to prepare for its demolition.”

Kentucky – State of emergency declared amid coal preparation plant collapse.  Two workers remain trapped at this time.  Governor Andy Beshear signed an executive order early Wednesday declaring a state of emergency.

“Two workers are trapped inside and a number of teams are working to rescue these individuals,” Beshear wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “The Order mobilizes state resources to help.”
