Small Pennsylvania town impacted by Haitian migrants in focus after Trump comments

CHARLEROI, PA –   Former President Trump made the following statement about Charleroi, Pennyslvania and a situation  they are dealing with involving a Haitian migrant influx:

“The small 4,000 person town of Charleroi, Pennsylvania has experienced a 2,000% increase in the population of Haitian migrants under Kamala Harris — the schools are scrambling to hire translators for the influx of students who don’t speak English, costing local taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

The Charleroi Borough Council President Kristin Hopkins-Calcek released a statement condemning former President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about Charleroi, Pennsylvania, which they described as an “unfair representation” of their community. The press release criticized Trump for using “divisive rhetoric to unfairly target the Haitian immigrant community,” arguing that his comments were politically motivated and distracted from the town’s real issues.

“Instead of focusing on the real issues facing Charleroi, such as widespread job losses due to corporate closures, Trump chose to exploit our town for political purposes,” the statement read. Charleroi has recently suffered significant economic setbacks, including the closure of Anchor Hocking and Quality Pasta, which led to a combined loss of 380 jobs.

I talked one resident who tells me the migrant popular is causing a strain on services and creating an issue on the road:

The press release emphasized Charleroi’s history of welcoming immigrants, stating, “Haitian immigrants have been unjustly scapegoated for many of Charleroi’s problems. Rather than acknowledging the real economic issues the town is facing, some have chosen to unfairly target the Haitian community.” Local leaders called for a focus on investment and support to address the town’s economic challenges, asserting that Charleroi’s tradition of openness should not be lost amid “divisive rhetoric.”
