The scheduled Powerball lottery drawing for Saturday evening has been postponed to allow for the completion of necessary pre-draw procedures, according to the game’s organizers. The delay is to ensure that a participating organizer can finish essential steps before the planned unveiling of the winning numbers at 10:59 p.m. ET, with the jackpot estimated at $1.3 billion.
Powerball’s rules mandate a thorough verification process where every ticket sold across the country must be checked against two distinct computer systems to confirm its eligibility before the draw. “The objective is to guarantee the integrity of every ticket entered into the Powerball draw, ensuring each has an equal opportunity to win. This evening, there’s a jurisdiction requiring additional time to finalize this verification process,” Powerball elaborated in a press release.
A representative for the Multi-State Lottery Association communicated to The Associated Press via email, indicating that the duration of the postponement had not been determined.
