(NewsNation) — Norfolk Southern, the rail company that is responsible for the massive train derailment in West Palestine, OH now says that it’s cost for clean up and relocation assistance to residents has topped $1.1 Billion dollars. The company also says that it now plans to cut 7% of its managers this year on a quarterly earnings call.
Norfolk Southern says it has paid out $652 million for costs related to the East Palestine incident last year, but costs are expected to grow over time because the cleanup is still ongoing and Norfolk Southern faces several lawsuits.
After the one-year anniversary of the Eastern Ohio train derailment, Norfolk Southern plans to end relocation assistance to residents impacted by the disaster.
