MSP Investigating Fatal Shooting of Armed Suspect in Flint

FLINT, Mich. — The Michigan State Police (MSP) are conducting an investigation following the fatal shooting of an armed man during a foot chase with troopers on Essex Street near Pasadena Avenue on the evening of Nov. 2.

According to MSP, two troopers from the Flint Post encountered the armed individual at approximately 6:34 p.m. The man, whose identity has not yet been released, fled as officers approached, prompting the troopers to give multiple verbal commands for him to stop and drop his weapon.

During the pursuit, one trooper deployed a Taser, but it was ineffective, and the suspect continued to flee. Troopers reportedly ordered the man to drop his gun at least seven times before firing their service weapons, striking him.

After the shooting, the troopers provided first aid until emergency responders transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators recovered a Glock pistol with a loaded extended magazine from the scene.

Col. James F. Grady II, director of MSP, emphasized the importance of a thorough, swift, and impartial investigation. “A loss of life during any police encounter is tragic,” Grady said in a statement.

The MSP has pledged to turn over all findings, including video evidence, to the Michigan Department of Attorney General for review once the investigation is complete.

No additional details have been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
