Mid-Michigan school district fires employee accused of inappropriately communicating with students

MIDLAND, Mich –   A Bullock Creek School District employee has been terminated after allegations he had inappropriate contact with students using an electronic device.

The following is the statement sent to parents from Superintendent Shawn Hale:

Bullock Creek Community: I am writing to make you aware that we have recently became aware of allegations toward a district employee indicating that the individual had private and inappropriate communication with a couple of students utilizing an electronic device outside the school year. The district has worked closely with law enforcement to investigate this situation to ensure the safety of all our Bullock Creek students and staff. We have followed the proper processes to investigate this situation by following all district policies and procedures. Once we were able to confirm the communication occurred, the district responded swiftly and the employee is no longer employed with the district nor will they be allowed on district property. Please know that it is our highest priority to protect our staff and students at all times. Law enforcement will continue to investigate this matter and I trust the proper consequence will be delivered once the investigation is complete. Thank you for your trust and confidence in the Bullock Creek School District.”

I reached out to Superintendent Hale and he sent me the following message:

The individual you referenced is no longer an employee at Bullock Creek and the District does not comment on the specifics of personnel matters in the press. However, Bullock Creek takes seriously its responsibilities to safeguard, nurture and develop the children entrusted to us.  The District has policies and procedures in place to investigate and handle any allegations of misconduct. We appreciate the trust and confidence that our families place in Bullock Creek, and we will continue to work to maintain that trust. Thank you as well for your trust and confidence.  Communication to brief our community has been sent to brief parents and staff today.

I have also been in contact with the Midland Police Department. Police tell me at this time there has been no arrest.

I will stay updated on this story and let you know the minute something changes.
