Melvindale, MI – On Sunday, Melvindale police officer Mohamed Said was tragically shot and killed in the line of duty. Authorities have named Michael Lopez as the prime suspect in the shooting.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Detroit shared details about Lopez via social media, urging the public to consider him armed and dangerous. Officials reported that Lopez fled the crime scene on a green mountain bike.

Lopez is described as a 6’1″, 245-pound man with brown hair and brown eyes, according to ATF Detroit.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on Lopez’s whereabouts to contact 911 or Michigan State Police immediately.
The area around Oakwood Boulevard and Dix Road in Melvindale saw a significant police response on Sunday afternoon, with personnel from Michigan State Police, River Rouge Police, Lincoln Park Police, and Dearborn Police all present. ATF Detroit is actively involved in the ongoing investigation.
