LANSING, Mich. (WJRT) – House Bill 4359 would repeal a law enacted in 2016 and allow communities to impose a tax on single use grocery store bags. “The Republican-led Michigan Legislature approved the 2016 state law in response to a Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners ordinance passed that year to impose a 10-cent tax on all plastic shopping bags. The county planned to spend 80% of revenue from the tax to promote recycling efforts and 20% on educating the public about the tax.”
