Home Depot fined $1.6 million dollars for selling HFC’s

Washington State – The Washington Department of Ecology has fined Home Depot for selling products containing HFC’s (Hydrofluorocarbon).  The hydrofluorocarbon’s are powerful greenhouse gasses that have been banned for several years.  These gasses are mostly used in refrigerators and air conditioners.  The Washington Department of Ecology has been trying to get Home Depot into compliance for several years.

“Restricting HFC products is crucial to meeting the state’s goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving net zero by 2050,” said Joel Creswell, who manages Ecology’s Climate Pollution Reduction Program. “When HFCs leak, they significantly contribute to climate change.”
