Former Midland Bullock Creek coach charged with accosting children for immoral purposes

MIDLAND, Mich – 30-year-old Travis Okeefe has been arrested and charged with accosting children for immoral purposes according to the Midland County, Michigan jail website and the Sheriff’s department.

This is a story I first reported in early August.

O’Keefe served as the assistant track coach at Midland Bullock Creek High School. According to the school district, he is no longer an employee.

The parents of the alleged victim tell me the coach sent their child inappropriate messages and solicited pictures from their child.

The child’s parents released the following statement:

We feel great relief that he has finally been arrested and will have to face what he did. However, none of that changes the innocence lost of his victims.

OKeefe is being held in the Midland County Jail on a $250,000 cash surety bond.

I have reached out to the school district for a statement on the arrest.

The school district released the following statement in August when I published the original story:

Bullock Creek Community: I am writing to make you aware that we have recently became aware of allegations toward a district employee indicating that the individual had private and inappropriate communication with a couple of students utilizing an electronic device outside the school year. The district has worked closely with law enforcement to investigate this situation to ensure the safety of all our Bullock Creek students and staff. We have followed the proper processes to investigate this situation by following all district policies and procedures. Once we were able to confirm the communication occurred, the district responded swiftly and the employee is no longer employed with the district nor will they be allowed on district property. Please know that it is our highest priority to protect our staff and students at all times. Law enforcement will continue to investigate this matter and I trust the proper consequence will be delivered once the investigation is complete. Thank you for your trust and confidence in the Bullock Creek School District.”

According to court records OKeefe’s next court appearance is a probable cause hearing scheduled for October 3.

I have reached out to the school district for a new comment and will update this article when I get it.
