Cyber gangs blamed for stealing loads and money from U.S. transportation industry

North America – Cyber gangs have been blamed for stealing or double brokering loads.  These cyber gangs make fake profiles on load boards and either hold the load for ransom or don’t deliver it at all.  This practice is affecting everyone from trucking companies to the consumers.

DAT Freight & Analytics, which operates the largest freight load board in North America, reported it blocked about 3,000 fake broker accounts in 2022 and about the same amount in the first half of 2023.  “Last year, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced it was stepping up enforcement actions against moving schemes, which occur when carriers hold consumers’ goods hostage or export fees from them while moving homes.”
