UPDATE: Marine helicopter with five U.S. Marines aboard has been located. Search for aircrew continues.
(NewsNation) — Five U. S. Marines are reported missing as the helicopter they were in has disappeared in the California mountains. The helicopter reportedly left Creech Air Force Base in Nevada on it’s way to Miramar Air Station in California. The Marines were flying a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter.
A search and rescue operation is currently underway by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Civil Air Patrol and Cal Fire. A command post has been set up off Interstate 8 near Pine Valley. Search and Rescue operations are complicated by weather.
