EAGLE PASS, TX – A convoy of Americans opposed to illegal immigration plans to rally near the U.S.-Mexico border, focusing on peaceful protest and prayer.
The “Take Our Border Back” convoy, originating from Virginia, is set to hold events near Eagle Pass, Texas, Yuma, Arizona, and San Ysidro, California. Concerns arise among critics that the convoy may contribute to anti-immigrant sentiment during a contentious period of political debates on border issues and increasing migrant crossings.
The convoy aims to draw attention to border security amid record-high illegal crossings during President Joe Biden’s administration.
Eagle Pass, Texas, is a focal point in the dispute between the White House and Texas Governor Greg Abbott over federal and state powers in addressing illegal immigration.
Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, have emphasized more restrictive immigration policies, making it a central issue in political discourse. Abbott is scheduled to appear with 14 Republican governors in a high-profile event defending Texas’ border enforcement actions.
I interviewed a Canadian journalist who is covering the convoy at the southern border. Watch the interview below:
