There is a new outbreak of the Hantavirus that is causing concern in Arizona and California. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), three people have died from the virus in Arizona and one person in California. The virus is spread from rodents to humans through the rodents urine and feces. “US officials have issued a health warning about a rat-borne disease that has no cure, after the deaths of four people from the infection this year the Daily Mail reported.”
Extreme temperatures and heavy rainfall are being blamed for fueling the uptick in infections in some areas. These can lead to virus-carrying rodents to seek shelter from heat and rain in peoples homes. This is where they come in contact with humans.
The virus is not contained in one geographic area rather all over the southwest areas of the United States.
