Latest on the search for Titanic submersible

BOSTON, Mass – In the ongoing search for a missing submersible, multiple agencies are working urgently to obtain the necessary specialized equipment.

The search efforts have primarily concentrated on the water’s surface, but now the team has underwater search capability at the location. Rear Adm. John Mauger, the US Coast Guard First District Commander, confirmed this on Tuesday.

The 21-foot deep-sea vessel, operated by OceanGate Expeditions, lost contact about an hour and 45 minutes after submerging on Sunday morning with a 96-hour oxygen supply. That oxygen is forecast to run out Thursday morning.

If the search teams locate the missing submersible in the deep ocean, they will be confronted with a highly intricate task of recovering the vehicle and any potential survivors.

The wreckage of the Titanic rests approximately 12,500 feet beneath the sea surface, which is roughly ten times the height of the Empire State Building.
