Pentagon warning it is running low on money to replace weapons

(Washington – AP) – After sending weapons to Ukraine, the Pentagon has warned congress that it is running low on money to replace weapons.  The result is that the Pentagon has slowed production of replacement weapons.  In a letter to congress, the Pentagon has asked for additional funding to replace those weapons.

Comptroller for the Pentagon, Michael McCord has told the House and Senate that “there is $1.6 billion left of the $25.9 billion Congress provided to replenish U.S. military stocks that have been flowing to Ukraine.”

Of the $5.4 billion left to provide weapons and equipment from its stockpiles, the U.S. is running dangerously low.  The Pentagon has stated that it had overvalued equipment already sent to Ukraine which freed up about $6.2 billion.  However, most of that has already been sent to Ukraine.

“We have already been forced to slow down the replenishment of our own forces to hedge against an uncertain funding future,” McCord said in the letter. “Failure to replenish our military services on a timely basis could harm our military’s readiness.”
