WASHINGTON D.C. – A federal appeals court unanimously ruled that Donald Trump is not immune from criminal charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
The three-judge panel rejected Trump’s argument that presidential immunity shielded him from prosecution, paving the way for potential criminal charges. The ruling increases the likelihood that Trump will face trial before the 2024 election.

The case, brought by special counsel Jack Smith, accuses Trump of conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstructing an official proceeding. Trump plans to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court. The judges warned that accepting Trump’s stance on presidential powers would undermine the separation of powers.
Trump faces charges in multiple other cases, including attempts to reverse election results and allegations of retaining classified documents.
