FLINT, Mich – In a detailed briefing today, authorities in Genesee County unveiled the results of a significant sting operation aimed at combating human trafficking and child exploitation. The Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team (GHOST) has been actively identifying and arresting predators before they can harm real victims since 2018. This proactive approach has expanded beyond Michigan to include operations in nine states, including Texas, Ohio, and California, among others.

During today’s briefing, officials highlighted the extensive cooperation between local law enforcement, the FBI, and state police, which has been crucial in the formation of specialized teams across various counties. The operation’s success has been attributed not only to law enforcement but also to partnerships with organizations like Voices for Children, which conducts forensic interviews with underage victims.

The Ghost operation has been a continuous effort across 58 counties in Michigan and has directly prevented potential assaults on an estimated 5,000 future victims, according to authorities. The operation also involved collecting evidence from arrestees and scenes, including digital devices that contained disturbing materials.

One poignant case discussed was that of an individual held on a $600,000 cash bond after being charged with using a computer for immoral purposes and possessing child pornography. The seriousness of the charges underscores the broader mission of the Ghost team to protect the community from such predatory behavior.

As the operation continues, officials are determined to extend their reach and training to wherever it is needed to prevent further victimization and to hold predators accountable. The briefing ended with a call to the public to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting vulnerable populations from exploitation.
