Vandals Wreak Havoc on Michigan’s Power Grid: $250,000 in Damage and a $9,999 Bounty!

Lansing, Mich. (July 12, 2024) – The Michigan State Police are investigating fourteen separate incidents of gunshot damage to transformers, regulators, and other electric system equipment over the past year, resulting in more than $250,000 in damages.

The Electric Co-op has announced a reward of $9,999 for any information that leads to the apprehension and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for these acts of vandalism.

“We are taking these incidents very seriously,” said a spokesperson for the Michigan State Police. “The damage caused not only disrupts service but also poses significant safety risks to the community.”

The incidents have primarily affected rural areas, causing power outages and significant repair costs. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
