Flint Family Pleads for Return of Nephew’s Ashes After Truck Theft

FLINT, Mich. —  UPDATE—  I am told the truck and other items have been found, but the ashes are still missing.

A Lapeer family is pleading for the return of their nephew’s ashes after a truck was stolen from the Truck and Bus Flint parking lot off Bristol Road early Wednesday morning. The vehicle, a 2002 GMC Duramax dually with an Ironworkers Local 25 sticker and light damage on the rear passenger side, contained the ashes that hold deep sentimental value. The family says they are not concerned about the truck itself or the items inside, which included a yellow Cub Cadet riding mower, but desperately want the ashes back.

“This isn’t just about a stolen truck; it’s about something irreplaceable that means the world to our family,” said the owner’s brother. “We just want the ashes returned, no questions asked.”

The theft has struck an emotional chord, highlighting the personal impact of the crime beyond the loss of material items. Local authorities are investigating, and the family hopes the public can help locate the truck or, more importantly, the ashes. Anyone with information is urged to contact Flint Police.

The community is rallying behind the family, sharing the details on social media and urging whoever took the truck to have compassion and return the ashes. The stolen vehicle has been described as a unique truck, easily identifiable by its large blue Ironworkers Local 25 sticker, which the family hopes will make it easier to spot.

For the family, the priority remains clear: recovering their loved one’s ashes, a piece of their past that can never be replaced.
