14-year old boy with autism tased by police. Mistaken identity says family

Illinois (ABC News -Chicago) – A 14 year old boy with autism was tased by police after chasing suspects through several back yards.  The boy, Avarius Thompson, is said to have matched a description of a suspect being pursued by Dolton police.  The family says this is a case of mistaken identity and have hired attorney  Calvin Townsend II.

“According to the Dolton Police Department’s incident report, Dolton police were assisting police in the nearby village of Riverdale in the search for four Black males who had fled from a crashed, stolen vehicle — two of whom were allegedly carrying rifles and a handgun.”

Avarius was taken to a local hospital where he was found to be suffering from a fractured hip, bumps and bruises and taser marks.  Avarius was later released into Riverdale police custody and then released to his parents with no charges.
